Inclusion and Equity Summit and Workshop: Creating Change!

We invite you to participate in two upcoming events; a community summit and a community workshop, to support building equity in the arts!

Join Theatre Puget Sound for two transformative community discussions tackling what is arguably one of the most pressing issues of our time; issues of diversity, inclusion and equity. Arts organizations across the nation are having to redefine who they are, and who they want to be in relation to their communities.  Join us for two engaging opportunities led by Carmen Morgan, national consultant to the arts, on best practices, coalition building, and possible next steps for collaboration for building a more inclusive arts community.

Creating Change! A Community SUMMIT Addressing Issues of Inclusion and Equity in Arts Institutions

The complexity we face around issues of equity extends far beyond what we can address in a single conversation. However, we hope this beginning will inspire participants to commit to the on-going learning required by all of us to create lasting change. This community summit will be open to all with a presentation led by Carmen Morgan to include trends, best practices, case studies and Q & A. Audience participation will be expected!

This event is free to all community members but due to limited space, an RSVP is required.

Creating Change! A Community WORKSHOP Addressing Issues of Inclusion and Equity in Arts Institutions

Date: November 19, 2014
Time: 9:30am – 4:00pm
Check-In: 9:00am

The second portion of our event will take a much deeper and experiential look at the work of creating institutional change in our arts organizations. This full-day workshop will consist of both organizational tools and opportunities to explore your own individual commitment to issues of equity. Resource-sharing will be an important portion of this day. While not required, it is strongly recommended that organizations attend in teams.

Due to the highly interactive nature of this session, this event will be limited to 35 people. An RSVP is required by November 14.

Looking to the future: Creating Change! A 12-Month Cohort Addressing Issues of Inclusion and Equity in Arts Institutions

These two events will be a precursor to a full year of analysis and skills-building on both a personal and organizational level. A select cohort of local arts institution will spend a year together moving beyond discussion to the implementation of structural and organization change. A brief application stating your interest to participate will be available at both the Community Summit and Workshop. We invite all individuals and organizations committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the arts, to join us in this work. It is the only way that community change will be sustained.
