Giant Magnet Says Goodbye

Wrapping up 25 years of incredible performing arts and memories is practically impossible, so we’ll start by thanking the folks that made it possible – the community, artists, teachers, children, donors, patrons, fans, friends, and you! Thank you to everyone who supported this unique and magical event for over two decades. The curtain came down on the 25th and final International Children’s Festival after a week of fantastic shows, smiling children and many good times. We said our tearful goodbyes to the last of the artists as they packed into a van to head not for the airport, but to the outlet malls (bargain shopping is an international language!).

The festival went off without a hitch, and getting the international artists into the country was seamless, thanks to the law firms Garvey Schubert Barer and Cowan Miller & Lederman for their exceptionally generous in-kind support to secure visas for the three Chinese performance companies and Tigerstyle.

The weekday shows were full of school groups from throughout Washington state, packed into theatres across the beautiful Seattle Center campus. Thanks to Parent Map for making our special Saturday ticket prices possible this year and to KUOW for helping spread the word. The community responded well to the lower prices and our last minute rush deal, helping us to make Saturday bigger than ever before!

Special thanks to the volunteers that gave hundreds of hours to help make the festival a success. From individuals to groups such as FIUTS (Foundation for International Understanding Through Students), Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, Youth Volunteer Corps of King County, Nature Consortium, John Robert Powers, Austin Foundation, and The World is Fun – we couldn’t have done it without you!

So many others made the festival possible and we are extremely grateful to you all. Thank you. Though we are wistful as we sign off in this last newsletter, we are honored to have had this incredible opportunity to bring joy to the community, meet so many fascinating artists from around the world, work with some of the most talented and dedicated staff and volunteers, and most importantly, enrich the lives of so many children.

A fond farewell to you all… we encourage you to continue to support the many worthwhile performing arts organizations in this community.

Best wishes,

Giant Magnet
